"Granted!"

I received the long awaited email bearing good news today!

{Pinterest}

Oh my.. Unbelievable.! I am speechless.. It has been quite a journey. The planting of this dream started in October 2010.

We have tried to find ways to reach it. But two doors closed on us.

I had to learn to 'Be still' and let God do His thing.. I was not even sure if He was in on it with me.

It was totally unexpected that we came across the right person who could help us, in April 2011. That was a little opening to get one foot into the doorway. Even then, we had to wait until July 2011 to officially embark on this process.

And today, 12 October 2012; it is granted!

{Thank you, Father God.. }

Know what I did last weekend?

We had planned for the trip for a while and so the long awaited trip finally came. The last time that we went, I promised myself to get unto one of these. The Scuba-doo.

(Picture from my last trip)

I wanted to experience what was portrayed on this board.
(Picture from my last trip)

Cool eh...

This time around, I made sure I would get on one, eventhough I have no inkling how to manouvre a motorbike or a motorboat,  much less 'riding' a mini submarine. (Reads: UNDERWATER)

I would figure it all out once I am there, I thought..

However when we were buying our tickets at the Jessleton Point, we were told that Manukan Island is 'closed'  to give the corals a rest from the tourists. We were offered Sapi Island instead. It is much smaller, but 'good enough' we were told.

Since we were at the jetty already, we thought, why not. After all we have been to Manukan Island a few times. Why not try a new island, yes? So we did.

And this was what we found..

Just look at that crowd

Not too shabby, but rather crowded for me.

You can even find a pen of mean looking monitor lizards..

Do not worry, despite their mean looks, they were not interested to have me for lunch. They were focused on something yummier..

In fact, they were salivating over the smell that came from what was on the BBQ pit, just next to their pen.. Satay!!

After exploring a bit of the small island, I went straight to the fun part..

Parasail!!

And then some...

I went around looking for the Scuba-do,  but was told that they only have it at Manukan Island. So, I tried the next best thing..

Sea-walking..

Oh, how I love this experience. You need to take a boat ride from the island to a boathouse anchored 10 mins away. Then, you will be briefed on what to do. (What sign language will be used underwater, what to do when your ears ache from the change in pressure; that kind of stuff)

For those who went unprepared like me, they even prepare shoes you could use underwater, as you seawalked. (Not the sophisticated kind you see divers used on National Geographic, though. It is the same kind my grandma use to go to her farm. Yes, those rubber kind. But good enough. Better than barefooted, I'd say).

One by one, the tourists had the helmet put on them by the divers, and climbed down the ladder and disappeared from my sight into the sea. I was the last person to go.

Oh, by the way, none of my friends were game to do this, so I was with a group of strangers. By the time it was my turn to don the helmet and started to climb down the ladder of the boat house into the arms of one of the diver, I was starting to feel a tad worried. A scary thought keeps creeping into the corners of my mind; but I pushed that thought away.

I did not know what to expect, but my curioisty got the better of me, so I just had to give it a go.

So I clung to the diver as we climbed down the ladder unto the sea bed. The diver was excellent, he did not rush and dragged me down to the sea bed. On the boathouse during the briefing, we were told that we can ask the diver who is assigned to lead us, to stop anytime we feel we need to blow our nose to ease the pressure in our ears .

So I did ask him to stop. Almost every few inches downward. Not only to blow my nose, but  to give me time for the much needed self- pep talk, 'You can do this, Yellow Chickadee!'.

It felt like a long way down. For a moment, I felt as if I was in the movie 'The Abyss'.. :)

Once we reached the sea bed, it was amazeeeeeeing....

I found Nemo!

Adorable, right....

The diver captured the whole thing on video too, and we were each given a copy. Oh, and a certificate too! :)

So, that was what I did last weekend.

Oh, by the way.. You know that scary thought, I had?

It was ' But you don't know how to swim!'...

Over and Over- Puff Johnson

I have not heard this wonderful song in a very long time. When I first saw the the movie' First Wives Club' and heard this soundtrack, I love it. It became my pep-up song during that time when I need some 'kicking'..

Today I feel like being reminded of how far I have come since I heard first this song.. And to celebrate it..

~.~
So you stood there on the corner
With your suitcase in your hand
Ready to quit this place
There were just too many people
With too little left to lose
You were just one more face
But you weren't born to give up easy
You weren't raised to just lie down

And you saw the sun that rises up for more
Over and over
You watch the wave that wears away the shore
Over and over again
And if there's any justice in this world
Gotta keep fighting on
Over and over

They say God always forgives us
But can we forgive ourselves
If we let our hope die
Cause if passion is a weakness
And silence is a strength
Who's gonna hear the cry?

So we gotta climb the highest mountain
We gotta shout for all to hear

And we'll see the sun that rises up for more
Over and over and over
And we'll feel the wave that wears away the shore
Over and over and over again
And if there's any justice in this world
Gotta keep moving on
Over and over
You gotta keep fighting on
Over and over
(All that we dream)
All that we dream can come to be
All that we lost we'll find if we
Just strike the match
And fan the flame
We'll build a blaze
That lights the way

We'll be the sun that rises up for more
Over and over
We'll be the wave that wears away the shore
Over and over again
And if there's any justice in this world
You gotta keep moving on
Over and over
Gotta keep fighting on

We'll be the star that rises up
Over and over
Over and over and over and over
'Cause if there's any justice in this world
You gotta keep moving on
Over and over
You gotta keep moving on
You gotta keep fighting on
Over and over

Over and over again

Yipeeee!

The FINAL Step in Part 1 of the Decision has been approved!!

For those readers (Yes, I do pretend I have more than 1 follower *wink*), who have been wondering what this Decision is all about, do bear with me a little bit more. I promise I will share with you once the whole process have been finalised. As in finalised in my favor, of course.

The main reason why I have been very cryptic about this 'Decision'  on this blog is because it is a very personal journey for me. Only my immediate family and my two angels knows about it, (even then, my own parents are thinking this is just a phase I am going through, since I have not talked about it anymore since I announced my 'Decision'.)

But for today, I just want to record it here, that I am happy to have reached this stage.

Thank you Father God. Amen..

Rejoice!

Oh my! Through God's grace, I achieved the target! It was a near impossible target that requires divine intervention. There was truly no way I could do this on my own. Hah! How wonderful it is to have connection in 'high places'. ;)

The result was as out a couple of days ago. I procrastinated going online to check it out as I was away on a vacation {topic for another blog}. Although I did think about it on the scheduled day of the result being released; at one point my anxiety almost spoiled my holiday. Then I was reminded again of a comforting word shared by a wonderful sister, to always look heavenward in whatever our circumstances we may be in.

I will lift up my eyes to the hills; From whence comes my help?
My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.
Psalms 121:1-2

Thank you Father God!

I won!

(Happy Feet)

Wow! This hardly ever happens to me, but I won something in a lucky draw today!! Forgive me if I appear overreacting, but hey! I could not contain myself!

It's nothing big; this thing that I won. But the fact that my name was picked out during the lucky draw, makes me go, 'Really? Lil' ol' me got it??'. The feeling is just... surreal!

Yippeee! Thank you, Father God!

God's angels

I adore the angels that God sent me in the form of my friends.

When you don't feel like it, they can push  or pull you back, depending which way you're going.

When your thoughts are wired and set a certain way, and you're going 170km/hr headed to 'No Good Zone',  blinded by emotions, they have a way to pull you back.

All it takes usually is just a sentence. (Or two)

And that is usually good enough.

With just that sentence, they will pull you back.

Back to them.

Back to what is good.

To my angels, this is for you!

The little things...

...that makes my day.

Almost a year ago, while shopping at our local market, I saw this gorgeous plant. Without thinking much, I bought it. Didnt even ask the old fella who sold it, the basic question, eg. how to care for it, does it like sun much, or prefer shady area, that sort. I didnt even ask him what was it name. (Still do not know up till this day)

Happily I brought it home, transfered it into my pot, happily watered  and admired it. Two days later the flower started to wilt. Thinking, it would flower again (soon), it didnt bother me..

One week passed, then it turned into a month. Then it rolled into another month, still no bud in sight. In fact the leaves started to wilt too. By the fourth month I was sure the bulb had died. I wanted to pull it off but hubby said it was still 'Ok' , albeit a little miserable. He took it upon himself to water it daily.

Then couple of days ago, he was beaming and asked me to check out the 'Miserable Plant'. Aaah..Finally! The second bloom after almost a year!

Lovely isnt it?..

That aside, I love all sorts of plant, but not quite a cacti person. I happened to have one, but that is only because it was given to me by my grandmother. I planted it more that 9 years ago and pretty much left it be.

I am not sure what happened the last few days, was it the super hot weather, or was it really its life cycle that after more than 9 years, my cacti flowered.

Trust me, I have never seen it flowering before. I thought cacti just does what it does. Looking spiky and untouchable, ok, maybe bud a little here and there.

But nothing like this.

Wadaya know.. Its actually gorgeous..

Selamat Ari Gawai

Ah, so the harvest celebration is just around the corner. I just could not wait to be on leave and drive back to our longhouse.

In spirit of Gawai, I dug out this very (very, very, very) old photo of me donning the Iban traditional costume in our very old longhouse.

That was really the last time I wore a complete Iban costume. The process of getting yourself all dolled up is so tedious (especially if you are a quirky nerd and non- beauty- pagent material, like yours truly). You better make sure you have done your last toilet run for the hour before you put this on, because once you have all 6-7kg of silver and copper 'ware' strapped unto you, you will have to jinggle-janggle( is there such word? But you catch my drift, right)  your way to the toilet.

A few years after this picture was taken, my grandmother lost it all in a burglary. It broke her heart, because that corset thingy belonged to her grandmother. And there is no way, you can replace the old silver shillings belts. At least not the real old shillings.

I am glad I had the honour to have my picture taken wearing our family heirloom.(And I am glad that I wore it, while I could fit into it as well.. lol!)

Every Iban girl will feel like a princess the moment they don this traditional costume.

It makes me smile recalling how my grandmother and aunties asked me to hold my head straight and smile. I had problem doing just that because the silver headgear was so heavy and I have never been corseted, nor had silver and copper ware strapped heavily unto my torso before. Hence, the strained smile. :D

Anyway, fast forward to the present, I would like to wish everyone who celebrates this harvest celebration,
'Selamat Ari Gawai, Gayu Guyu Gerai Nyamai'
Woooohaa!
